Overview : Server Penetration Testing
Methodology
Black Box Testing is performed without prior knowledge of your server architecture, configurations, or credentials. The tester approaches the system like a real world attacker that only has public available information, and active reconnaissance to discover weaknesses.
Gray Box Testing is a combined test type where the testers would have limited access or limited knowledge to the server environment. It represents a potential attack path for an attacker to have some insider information, such as credentials that are leaked or limited network access.
In White Box Testing (also known as Clear Box Testing or Crystal Box Testing), you have complete knowledge of the server's infrastructure, such as IP addresses, architecture diagrams and configurations. This means that you can complete a thorough assessment in a relatively short period of time.
